It is hard sometimes to know how a team is going to be from year to year. You think you build a program on certain principles and that if you follow them, the team will be relatively the same and maintain a level of success. While it doesn't always happen that way, but if Saturday's performance is any indication, Coach Kurt Felker and his staff have this year's edition of SMS Hawks wrestling fine-tuned and ready to dominate.

The Windsor Middle School duals are often a hotspot for catching Northern Colorado's middle school talent early in the season. This year, the event hosted ten (10) teams from around the Northern Colorado Area and from first to last whistle there was scrapping going down on every mat.

Our Severance Middle School Hawks though came out and absolutely destroyed the competition. In the first-round pool, Severance faced Wellington Middle School and Roosevelt Middle School. From the beginning of this pool, it was clear that Severance was superiorly conditioned and prepared for the competition, and it reflected in the scoring of those two duals; Versus Wellington, Severance won 90-36, and versus Roosevelt, Severance won 83-40.

After the initial duals, three teams stood out and made the 1st place pool, and those were Eaton, Windsor and Severance Middle. That pool was awesome to watch, and the crowds for each dual were exceptional! The old gym at Windsor Middle School was HYPED for the battles that went on, and in those battles, Severance came out victorious.

Versus Eaton, Severance was dominant from the beginning. In fact, there was never a time during the dual that Eaton even appeared to have a realistic chance of winning. That dual was won by our Hawks with a score of 80-37.

The Windsor dual was a little more competitive, but Severance proved to have more wrestlers that could close with bonus points. That led Severance to the championship of the SMS Dual Invite, winning by a score of 69-49.

Severance Middle School Wrestling is off to a great start and is looking to follow up a great weekend with a dual win at Bill Reed this Wednesday. Let's bring home another dual win!
