Severance High School Wrestling had an unforgettable week one and first weekend as the Varsity Boys, Girls, and JV teams showcased their determination, grit, and skill on the mats. With the boys Varsity and JV teams having a dual early in the week, and all three teams competing in three separate events over the weekend, the Silver Knights delivered stellar performances, highlighted by numerous individual victories, team depth, and unforgettable moments. Severance vs. Wellington: Dominance on Display
Severance Boys Varsity delivered an awe-inspiring performance against Wellington, winning every contested match to achieve a perfect team score of 82-0. The Silver Knights controlled the meet from start to finish, showcasing their technical prowess and mental toughness.
Key Match Highlights:
Drake VomBaur (120 lbs): Pinned his opponent in 2:51, setting the tone early with a commanding victory.
Jaxon Felker (126 lbs): Needed just 52 seconds to secure his fall, demonstrating explosive speed.
Steven Stack (144 lbs): Earned a technical fall victory (19-4), showcasing his stamina and skill across all three periods.
Brody Ridenour (157 lbs): Dominated with a first-period pin in 1:35, adding valuable momentum to the team.
Ben Petersen (215 lbs): Showed grit with a fall in 3:38, continuing his excellent form this season.
Simon Carter (106 lbs): Achieved a technical fall victory (18-1) in just two minutes, reflecting his unmatched ability to control the match.

Severance vs. Mountain View: A Nail-Biter
The second dual of the day against Mountain View was a closely contested battle, with Severance narrowly falling short in a 39-35 loss. Despite the team defeat, the Silver Knights had several standout individual performances that highlighted their resilience and talent.

Jaxon Felker (126 lbs): Fought hard for a pin in 5:50, exemplifying determination and focus.
Jett Harris (132 lbs): Secured a fall in just 2:35, helping Severance stay in the hunt.
Dennis Campos (138 lbs): Dominated his opponent for a technical fall (18-2) in 3:27, starting off what is sure to be a stellar season.
Steven Stack (144 lbs): Delivered a solid 12-5 decision win, demonstrating his technical skill.
Joshua Abram (165 lbs): Earned a pin in 2:34, providing critical points for Severance.
Brayden Baker (175 lbs): Secured a pin in 2:20, showcasing his ability to finish strong.
Ben Petersen (215 lbs): Added another fall to his resume in 2:58, highlighting his consistency.
George Griffenhagen (285 lbs): Recorded one of the fastest falls of the day, pinning his opponent in just 38 seconds.
Though the team fell short in the overall score, Severance demonstrated incredible fight and came away with valuable lessons for future duals.

Varsity Boys: Battling to a Second-Place Finish at the Wizard Duals
The Varsity Boys team competed in the prestigious Wizard Duals at Windsor High School on Saturday, where they faced off against some of the toughest teams in the region. Their journey to the finals was nothing short of impressive, with dominant wins against Poudre, Legacy, Wellington, and Timnath. In the championship dual, the Silver Knights gave it their all but came up just short, falling 44-31 to host team Windsor. Despite the loss, the team’s performance solidified their place among Colorado’s elite.

Simon Carter (106 lbs): A standout for the Silver Knights, Simon recorded four pins in just 2:51. His fastest pin came in a mere 15 seconds, earning him the tournament’s fastest fall title.
Drake VomBaur (120 lbs): Showcased dominance with four pins, including one in 39 seconds. Drake’s relentless energy was a key factor in the team’s success.
Ben Petersen (215 lbs): Proved to be a powerhouse, securing three falls with a best time of 57 seconds.
Lane Swarts (138 lbs): Demonstrated grit in every match, tallying 23 team points and a thrilling 10-7 sudden victory win against Windsor.
Jake Mitchell (175 lbs): Delivered the “What the Heck” moment of the day, escaping a spladle to reverse and pin his opponent. His resilience and creativity were the talk of the team.
Other significant contributions came from Brody Ridenour (157 lbs) with three falls and 18 team points, and Joshua Abram (165 lbs), who added 24 team points with two pins. The Varsity Boys’ depth and determination were on full display, setting the tone for an exciting season.

Girls Team: Outstanding Results at the Strasburg Invitational
The Girls team competed at the Strasburg Invitational and left a mark with several individual champions and strong placements. Their performances reflected their dedication to the sport and growing confidence on the mats.

Kailey McGuire (115 lbs): Dominated her weight class to claim 1st place, winning both matches by fall, including one in just 1:03.
Eila Schultz (130 lbs): A force to be reckoned with, Eila secured 1st place with two pins, including one in under a minute.
Faith Vondy (135 lbs): Added another gold to the team’s tally with two quick pins, finishing her matches in 54 seconds and 1:10, respectively.
Other notable performances included:
Nevaeh Odegaard (125 lbs): Placed 2nd with a victory by fall in the semifinals.
Addyson Duran (120 lbs): Battled to a 3rd-place finish, securing a fall in the 3rd-place match.
Alisa Gonzales (170 lbs): Earned 2nd place with a quick pin in her semifinal match.
Austyn Mitchell (155 lbs): Took 3rd place, pinning her opponent in just 55 seconds.
With several podium finishes and standout moments, the Girls team continues to grow stronger and more competitive, demonstrating their ability to compete with the best in the state.

JV Team: Depth and Development on Display at the Greeley West Tournament
The JV team turned heads at the Greeley West Tournament, where they showcased their potential and depth. With a mix of experienced wrestlers and rising talent, the Silver Knights made their presence known.
Individual Champions:
Ben Loecke (86-93 lbs): Claimed 1st place with a perfect 4-0 record, earning two pins and a decision victory in his final match.
William Barrentine (130-142 lbs): Another 1st-place finisher, William won all his matches by fall, showcasing impeccable technique.
Mack Swift (157-158 lbs): Dominated his bracket with three pins and a tech fall, earning 1st place with style.
Brody Vondy (215-232 lbs): Took 1st place, winning two matches, including a lightning-fast pin in 46 seconds.

Carter Zirbel (119-121 lbs): Finished 2nd with a strong showing, including a tech fall and two victories by fall.
Corben Isaacs (136-139 lbs): Secured 2nd place with three pins, demonstrating resilience in every match.
