Severance Girls Wrestling Impresses at the Arvada Invitational

The Severance Girls Wrestling team hit the mats at the Arvada Invitational this past weekend, bringing fire, fight, and heart to a packed day of competition. With three standout placers and valiant efforts across the roster, the Lady Silver Knights left it all on the mat and made their mark on a highly competitive field.

Top Placers: Shining on the Podium


Kailey McGuire (110 lbs): Third Place with Determination

Kailey McGuire faced a challenging start but rallied back with sheer willpower and skill to secure a podium finish.

  • Championship Round 1: Kailey was caught by Arianna Alvarado (Skyview) and fell in 3:43.

  • Consolation Rounds: Kailey stormed through the bracket, pinning Sara Cespedes (Brighton) in 1:33 and Maribel Delgado Bartholomew (Fountain-Fort Carson) in 3:51.

  • Consolation Semis: Kailey continued her dominant streak, pinning Neveah Romero (Abraham Lincoln) in 4:13 to earn her spot in the 3rd Place Match.

  • 3rd Place Match: In a display of tactical brilliance, Kailey defeated Alina Sasser (Roosevelt 1) in a decisive 7-1 decision.

Austyn Mitchell (155 lbs): Fourth Place with Big Pins

Austyn Mitchell showed her knack for explosive pins and resilience against tough competition.

  • Quarterfinal: Austyn started strong, pinning Graci Baker (Holy Family) in just 57 seconds.

  • Semifinal: She faced a tough match against Matilda Hruby (Brighton), falling in 26 seconds.

  • Consolation Semis: Austyn bounced back, pinning Dianna Casales (Arvada) in 1:44 to advance to the 3rd Place Match.

  • 3rd Place Match: Despite her efforts, Austyn fell to Zusette Arellano (Pomona) in 41 seconds, capping a strong day with a 4th place finish.

Alisa Gonzales (170 lbs): Silver Medal Performance

Alisa Gonzales proved why she’s one of Severance’s most consistent performers, wrestling her way to a 2nd place finish.

  • Quarterfinal: Alisa pinned Mikayla Maes (Denver North) in a thrilling match that ended at 5:23.

  • Semifinal: Alisa kept the momentum going, pinning Julianna Darmafall (Liberty Common) in 1:05 to punch her ticket to the finals.

  • 1st Place Match: Alisa faced Maile Manfre (Englewood) but fell in 49 seconds, taking home the silver medal.

  • Jaylie Payne (100 lbs): Jaylie battled through two tough matches after a first-round bye.

  • Addyson Duran (120 lbs): Addyson showed grit despite facing tough competition.

    • Championship Round 1: Fell to Abigail Segar (Sterling) in just 37 seconds.

    • Consolation Rounds: Received a medical forfeit win but fell to Logan Balmer (Arvada West) in 1:57.

  • Nevaeh Odegaard (125 lbs): Nevaeh displayed skill and heart, earning crucial team points.

    • Round 1: Pinned Riley Frary (Arvada West) in 50 seconds.

    • Consolation Rounds: Won two more matches, including a dominant 12-3 major decision over Jayden Bird (Roosevelt 1), before falling in the consolation semis.

  • Alivia Gonzales (145 lbs): Alivia showcased her determination in a stacked bracket.

    • Round 1: Pinned Dagney Easton (Evergreen) in a hard-fought match at 5:30.

    • Consolation Rounds: Fell to Abbie Reeves (Manitou Springs) via tech fall after a bye.

  • Allison Wilson (235 lbs): Allison continues to gain experience and battle through tough matchups.

    • Quarterfinal: Fell to Soledad Luchman (Standley Lake) in 1:19.

    • Consolation Rounds: Fell to Cheyenne Becker (Woodland Park) in 20 seconds.
