The Severance Middle School Hawks wrestling team cemented their dominance at the Windsor Duals, walking away with the championship after a series of electrifying duals. With a perfect combination of technical skill, grit, and resilience, the Hawks overcame tough opponents in Roosevelt, Franklin, Lesher, and Windsor Middle Schools to claim 1st place.

This victory wasn’t just about the team score—it was a showcase of individual excellence and collective strength. Here’s how the action unfolded, dual by dual, followed by a breakdown of standout individual performances.



Match 1: Severance Edges Roosevelt in a Nail-Biter (60-56)

The opening dual set the tone for the day, with the Hawks and Roosevelt trading blows in a back-and-forth thriller.

  • Key Wins:

    • Jasper Fredrickson (80 lbs): Set the pace with an 18-second pin over Jude Vogele, showcasing lightning-fast moves.

    • Jaziah Hinojosa (90 lbs): Followed suit with a dominant pin in just 28 seconds.

    • Declan Haussermann (85 lbs): Battled to a gritty 12-7 decision over Blayne Schwab, a crucial win in a close match.

    • Corbyn Dare (120 lbs): Took control with a first-period pin in 0:52, giving the Hawks vital momentum.

    • Declan Collins (130 lbs): Dominated with a fall at 0:38, reinforcing Severance’s stronghold in the middleweights.

Despite some tough losses in the upper weights, including falls at 200 lbs and 285 lbs, Severance’s early lead held firm, giving them the razor-thin victory.



Match 2: Severance Overwhelms Franklin (80-42)

The Hawks came out swinging against Franklin, securing bonus points across multiple matches to build an insurmountable lead.

    • Carter Hirschmen (70 lbs): Fought off a late charge to win a thrilling 15-11 decision.

    • Brayden Lucier (95 lbs): Notched a quick pin in 1:25 to keep the momentum rolling.

    • Madison McElmeel (110 lbs): Dominated Padyn Miller with a 21-5 technical fall, displaying incredible control and precision.

    • Mason Clark (180 lbs): Picked up another forfeit victory, solidifying the Hawks’ commanding lead.

Severance’s depth across the lineup proved too much for Franklin, as they cruised to an impressive 38-point win.



Match 3: Severance Outlasts Lesher (69-46)

In their third dual, the Hawks faced a scrappy Lesher team. While Severance controlled much of the match, Lesher kept things competitive with key wins in the upper weights.

    • William Hirsch (75 lbs): Secured a victory via injury default at 1:49, setting the tone early.

    • Malia Bornhoft (140 lbs): Showed tremendous grit, earning a narrow 5-4 decision in one of the closest matches of the night.

    • Keegam Kohookele (155 lbs): Came out aggressive and pinned Jackson Blanchard in just 28 seconds, a pivotal win for Severance.

The Hawks leaned on their middleweights and lower weights to secure the dual, with big wins from Declan Collins (130 lbs) and Colin Stack (135 lbs) sealing the deal.



Match 4: Severance Defeats Rival Windsor (70-54)

The final dual of the day pitted Severance against their in-town rival, Windsor Middle School. The Hawks weathered a late push by Windsor to secure a satisfying win.

    • William Hirsch (75 lbs): Earned a quick pin in 30 seconds, putting Severance on the board early.

    • Jaziah Hinojosa (90 lbs): Scored crucial points with a first-period fall in 32 seconds.

    • Mason Clark (180 lbs): Closed out his day with another win, pinning August Vandenburg in just 50 seconds.

Windsor fought hard, earning wins in the upper weights, but Severance’s balanced attack across the lineup carried them to victory.

75 lbs: William Hirsch William was unstoppable, going 4-0 with three pins and an injury default victory. His ability to finish matches quickly was a major factor in Severance’s success.


80 lbs: Jasper Fredrickson Jasper turned in a flawless performance, earning three first-period pins, including an 18-second fall against Roosevelt. His dominance at 80 lbs solidified Severance’s strength in the lower weights.


85 lbs: Declan Haussermann Declan showed his grit and determination, battling to a critical 12-7 decision against Roosevelt and earning a decisive pin in the Windsor dual. His continued improvement in positioning and endurance was evident throughout the tournament.


90 lbs: Jaziah Hinojosa Jaziah’s speed and aggression led to multiple first-period pins, including a lightning-fast 28-second fall against Roosevelt. Though he faced tough competition in the Windsor dual, his consistent ability to score points made him a key contributor.

105 lbs: Urijah Lambert Urijah continued to grow as a competitor, picking up a commanding 15-7 major decision in the Windsor dual and a first-period pin against Franklin. His progress in controlling matches is becoming a strength.


110 lbs: Madison McElmeel Madison had a standout moment with a 21-5 technical fall against Franklin. Though she faced tough losses, her technical skills and ability to rack up points show her potential to dominate in future tournaments.


115 lbs: Isaac Barber Iaac’s effort and determination were evident, with a forfeit win in the Windsor dual. While facing tough opponents in the other matches, his continued growth in positioning and defense was noticeable.

125 lbs: Audrey Wakkinen Audrey showcased resilience, picking up a hard-fought 8-6 decision against Roosevelt. While she faced challenges in later matches, her grit and fight were clear, and her improvement is promising.


130 lbs: Declan Collins Declan went 4-0, dominating with two pins and a decision victory. His technical precision and ability to adapt to opponents were highlights of his performance.

145 lbs: Success McDonough Success lived up to his name, earning a dominant 26-second pin in the Windsor dual and a forfeit win. His strength and aggression on the mat were key in securing bonus points for Severance.


155 lbs: Keegam Kohookele Keegam showed flashes of brilliance with a 28-second pin in the Lesher dual. Though he faced tough opponents in other matches, his ability to finish quickly highlights his potential.


165 lbs: Michel Flores Michel battled hard against strong competition. While he didn’t come away with a win, his effort and determination showed his commitment to improving with each match.


180 lbs: Mason Clark Mason dominated his weight class, going 4-0 with three pins and a forfeit win. His ability to control matches and secure bonus points made him a cornerstone of Severance’s success.


200 lbs: Celso Viadran Celso contributed critical points with two forfeit wins. While he faced challenges in contested matches, his resilience and willingness to compete for the team were key.
