For those that follow high school wrestling, Super 32 represents one of the great tournaments that elite wrestlers meet at every year. Being hosted in Greensboro, North Carolina on October 17th and 18th, Super 32 is a proving ground every year for the Nation's best high school grapplers. Two of Severance's own are headed that direction this year in an effort to show-up and show out on one of the nation's biggest stages.

Drake VomBaur: The Name Everyone Already Knows
In wrestling circles, the name Drake VomBaur carries weight. He’s the kid from Severance High School who shows up at national tournaments and makes people pay attention. Whether it’s Reno, Preseason Nationals, or showcase events stacked with Division I prospects, Drake has done more than just hang around—he’s placed, he’s won, and he’s left no doubt that he belongs on the mat with the country’s best.
Drake’s style is as efficient as it is relentless. He doesn’t waste motion, doesn’t rattle under pressure, and when the match is on the line, he finds a way to score. He has a work ethic that is rarely seen today, and with that knack for delivering in big moments, it is no wonder why college recruiters already have his number circled. They see a competitor who’s not just good now, but who projects to be great for years to come.
Super32 won’t be new territory for Drake. It’ll be another proving ground. Another chance to add to a resume that’s already decorated with national hardware. And if history is any indicator, he’s going to leave Greensboro with people talking about him again—only louder this time.

Simon Carter: The Underdog With a Breakthrough
If Drake is the known commodity, Simon Carter is the firebrand on the rise. His breakthrough moment came this summer at Fargo this past summer, where he went deep in the field and into the blood rounds in freestyle, but then battled his way through the Junior Greco-Roman field and emerged as a Fargo All-American, placing 6th. For his club and his community, it was history—the first time Severance High School had produced a Fargo All-American. For Simon, it was a moment of validation that years of grind were finally paying off.
But what makes Simon’s story resonate isn’t just that he placed at Fargo. It’s how he did it. He lost tough matches early, took lumps from the kind of nationally ranked hammers that derail most wrestlers, and then clawed his way back on the placement side. Every round demanded more grit, more resolve, and more refusal to quit. That resilience has become his trademark.
Simon doesn’t step into Super32 with the hype of a heavily recruited star. He steps in with hunger to be on the national radar. He steps in with the scars of battle-tested matches, and the confidence of knowing he can scrap with anyone in the country. For him, Greensboro isn’t about making people remember his name—it’s about making sure they can’t forget it.
Two Paths, One Destination
Together, VomBaur and Carter represent the dual identity of Severance Wrestling right now. Drake is the polished contender, the nationally recognized talent with expectations on his shoulders and a never-ending desire to improve at all he does. Simon is the gritty unknown, the up-and-coming wrestler with something to prove, the one who thrives in surprising people. And yet, their stories will converge at Super32. On the same mats, in the same tournament, against the same wave of elite competition, both will fight to carve their place among the best.
For Severance wrestling, their journeys matter. Every win, every placement, every moment in Greensboro is another step toward showing that Severance isn’t just producing tough wrestlers—it’s producing champions.
The Test Awaits
Super32 doesn’t hand out respect. It demands every ounce of fight and punishes even the smallest mistakes. The brackets are filled with nationally ranked hammers, and every round feels like a state final.
But for Drake VomBaur and Simon Carter, that’s the appeal. The lights will be bright, the mats unforgiving, and the stage as big as it gets. And when the whistle blows, two wrestlers from Severance will step forward—not just to compete, but to make a statement.
Because at Super32, legends are made. And Drake and Simon are ready to write the next chapter.
